We've been following @lmcnelly @FansOfFilm for some time and even tweeted their last project 'Up Country' a project that filmmaker Lucas McNeily successfully reached a goal @Kickstarter with $4,289 raised.
We saw early on what Lucas was doing with @YearWithoutRent and ReTweeted the project here and there, but it's when we saw some key figures on Twitter getting behind the project such as @Filmcourage and @TedHope 'to mention a few' I thought we better step up and a make a make a small pledge. That's when there was only a little over $3,000 raised, and to be honest I really didn't think @YearWithoutRent was going to meet it's goal with almost $9,000 to raise in less than a week.
It was truly an historical moment in indie film crowd sourcing, as myself and another filmmaker in the room witnessed in the last moments of the campaign an historical push in crowd sourcing. It was the largest community effort on Twitter I've ever seen, everybody seemed to be tweeting, and in just a few hours a few thousand dolor's was raised. Meeting their goal of $12,000...
It was like race or a great sporting event I couldn't stop hitting the refresh button and tweeting at the same time, we were even on Facebook reaching out to our local community through Fans Of Film and my personal profile. , fingers dug into the keyboard cheering on my favorite team, it' really was one of the most exciting things I've ever witness online.
